Proposed Constitutional Amendment Local Ballots June 4, 2002

Relating to Lamar County, proposing an amendment to the Constitution of Alabama of 1901, to assess additional court costs in criminal drug cases in the county with the proceeds to be used for the maintenance and operation of the canine unit in the office of the sheriff. (Proposed by Act No. 2001-448)

Relating to Montgomery County, proposing an amendment to Amendment No. 551 to the Constitution of Alabama of 1901, to increase the limit to five mills per year on a special ad valorem tax for fire protection and emergency medical services in the unincorporated areas of Montgomery County which may be levied by the Montgomery County Commission. (Proposed by Act No. 2001-449)

Relating to Montgomery County, proposing an amendment to the Constitution of Alabama of 1901, to allow the governing bodies of the incorporated municipalities in Montgomery County, with the exception of the City of Montgomery, to levy up to a certain amount of ad valorem taxes to finance fire protection and emergency medical services; and to allow the Legislature, by local law to provide for the administration, collection, and allocation of any revenues from ad valorem taxes levied pursuant to this amendment and consistent with the purposes of this amendment. Relating to Montgomery County, proposing an amendment to the Constitution of Alabama of 1901, to authorize Montgomery County and the City of Montgomery to perform certain actions for the purpose of economic and industrial development. (Proposed by Act No. 2001-1067)
