Secretary of State John H. Merrill Observes the Fourth of July Holiday Weekend

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Friday, July 2, 2021 – MONTGOMERY – Alabama Secretary of State John H. Merrill joins citizens across the country in celebrating the Fourth of July holiday weekend:

“This weekend, we remember the diligent work of our Founding Fathers who fought for the religious, political, and social freedoms we enjoy today.

“We often forget that our rights, including our right to vote, are not free, but are secured by our courageous military men and women who selflessly put their lives on the line so that we may live freely.

“Next year at the polls, Alabama voters can support a veteran or military member through participating in the ‘Vote in Honor of a Veteran’ program, in which Alabamians may receive a lapel pin and bumper sticker upon submitting a testimonial expressing their support and admiration for our brave service members.

“Voters can also receive a ‘I Vote in Honor of a Veteran' sticker after leaving the polls to show their support.

“Almost 400 Alabamians have honored a veteran through submitting a testimonial since the program began in September of 2020, and we hope more Alabamians will participate as they observe the Fourth weekend.

“The ‘Vote in Honor of a Veteran’ program would not be available without the resources and support provided by the Alabama Farmers Federation and ALFA Insurance.

“This weekend, please take time to reflect on the love of our nation, the blessings that have been given to us, and the men and women who have sacrificed their lives for your freedom.”
