FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Friday, September 18, 2020 – MONTGOMERY – Yesterday, Alabama Secretary of State John H. Merrill, along with his colleagues at the National Association of Secretaries of State, participated in a video conference with Louis DeJoy, the Postmaster General of the United States.
In their commitment to ensuring votes are counted in the manner in which they were cast, Postmaster General DeJoy confirmed that election mail would be the Postal Service’s top priority between now and Election Day.
Secretary Merrill, who thanked the Postal Service for their increased communication and awareness surrounding the mail-in process, reiterated the importance of keeping Americans armed with accurate, up-to-date, and complete information.
“The mailers that have recently been sent to homes across America are great reminders of the importance of early participation in absentee voting,” reminded Merrill. “Anyone who is concerned about voting in-person on Election Day should apply today for their absentee ballot and return it as soon as possible.”
Emphasizing the importance of returning applications and ballots early, DeJoy assured secretaries that the Postal Service is ready and willing to deliver and return the country’s election mail.
