FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Tuesday, September 3, 2019 – MONTGOMERY - Secretary of State John H. Merrill is proud to announce that today, Alabama welcomes another county into the online filing process for the formation of domestic limited liability companies (LLCs) and domestic for-profit business corporations.
Thanks to the leadership provided by Probate Judge Frank Barger, citizens of Madison County are now able to file name reservation certificates and certificates of formation for domestic entities electronically through the Alabama Secretary of State’s website.
“The Madison County Probate Office constantly seeks ways to more efficiently deliver services and provide an exemplary customer experience. We are proud to offer this option to the business community - providing a great convenience for our citizens and maintaining the level of service they’re accustomed to,” stated Judge Barger.
These online services are offered at no cost to Alabama’s 67 counties by the Secretary of State’s Office.
“I believe that government should help businesses thrive by eliminating bureaucracy and modernizing the system in which Alabamians use each and every day. I am glad that the citizens of Madison County are now able to take advantage of this great service!” announced Secretary of State John H. Merrill.
Secretary Merrill has reduced the business filing speed from seven months to just one day for the last three years. In moving the business owners’ filing process online, the office has eliminated the wait time for submitting and receiving forms, thus allowing the Office of the Secretary of State to remain committed to providing our one-day filing speed. These improvements have been made with a significant reduction in the number of staff in the office.
Secretary Merrill is actively working with various counties across the state to provide this service to those interested.
The online filings process for the formation of domestic LLCs and domestic for-profit business corporations is currently available for citizens in Baldwin, Elmore, Jackson, Montgomery, Morgan, and Tuscaloosa County.
Business owners are also able to register or renew their trademarks online from the comfort of their home or office.
Thanks to Secretary Merrill, the Office of the Secretary of State no longer operates at the speed of government. Instead, we operate at the speed of business.
