Alabama Voter Record Refresh


January 25, 2017 - MONTGOMERY - The Alabama Secretary of State’s Office has prepared and will soon begin to mail a voter contact post card to all 3.3 million registered voters. This mailing is being completed at the direction of Secretary Merrill to ensure full compliance with the National Voter Registration Act, which requires periodic contact with voters to ensure the most accurate information is on file to allow each voter to have the biggest impact on the elected officials that represent them at the local, county, state, and federal level.

An image of the mailer can be found below. Each card features instructions to retain the card when received if the name and address information are correct. However, if the card is intended to be received by someone no longer living at that location because they are deceased or they have relocated to another permanent address, the recipient should mark return to sender and place it back in the mail. This will allow registrars in all 67 counties to update rolls providing accurate and up-to-date information for all Alabamians.

“During my time as Alabama’s 53rd Secretary of State, our office has registered more than 600,000 new voters. As we work to ensure every Alabamian is afforded the opportunity to register to vote, it is also important to account for address changes and deaths that could artificially inflated the State’s voter rolls. That is why this process is so important and must be completed every four years,” said Secretary Merrill.
